Hot or Not ? – An insight on Skin Tones
I am totally celebrating 700 clicks on this blog! – To find out why I am so excited, hit the “Save A Life” tab
For this celebration, I wanted to post something very useful but a lot of ladies totally disregard this particular aspect.
Skin Tones.
Each one of us has a unique skin tone and the make up we use and colors we wear ‘oh so’ depend on how our skin is toned. Today I will give you an insight on how you can wear colors that bring out the best of you and refrain from some colors which might not suit you at all. I am not saying women should be restricted to wearing only particular colors but let me tell you how with a couple of variations with your dress will make you glitter!
– Also these tips will help you when you go out shopping next for make up or hair color and will guide you with the kind of colors you might want to try out which you might have never even thought of!
Sometimes, the dress we get made is totally ravishing but when we wear it, it dims our color or personality – you know when you get that – “something is missing” kinda feeling. I hope this post will help ladies out when they design a dress or think about make up tones and contrasts!
It all started when I was on the look out for a perfect foundation – boy oh boy if you don’t have the foundation kind of skin – this makeup feature can be your biggest enemy. The hunt was very unsatisfying. I used to youtube a lot of how-to videos about makeup and this one mentioned something about skin tones and defined them in two distinctive categories – skin with a yellow undertone and skin with a pink undertone … alternatively we call it the “Cool or Warm skin tone”
Cool Skin Tones —-> Skin has a Pink undertone
Warm Skin Tones —> Skin has a Yellow undertone
In terms of foundation, which kind of foundation you should select highly depends on what kind of undertone it will appreciate. Good foundations always have this distinction – Also, some ladies might notice that at salons, something called a yellow-base comes along in a makeup process, again this product appreciates yellow undertone skins.
Cool and Warm skin tone principles are applicable to all individuals ranging from fair skins to dark skins – like I said before every skin has its own unique feature hence, establishing which category it falls under is important so that you don’t end up feeling cakey or odd after a make-over.
A really nice insight is available HERE.
I love it how they outlined what will happen if you wear the right colors and what will happen if you wear the wrong ones
Moving forward on the same link there is a very helpful chart which illustrates which colors would suit you if you have a cool skin tone or if you have a warm skin tone. Don’t let this chart trick you though – some people have a skin tone which fall under both – which is neutral, although more towards the yellow undertone – this skin appreciates all kinds of colors ! Mine is somewhat like that since I have a yellow undertone but navy blues and purples look fab on me too.
However, this chart helped me determine the kind of foundations I should be using and what hair colour I could get!

The test to determine which kind of skin tone you have is to check your veins which are visible through your skin – do they appear to be more bluish or greenish? For green ones – yellow it is, for blue ones its pink!
If you wish to enhance your hair color according to your skin tone – below are a couple of useful sites:
Finally, what if you want to want to wear a shocking pink or a bronzie brown and your skin tone just ain’t perfect for it!
Two things will help solve your problem … Your Make-Up and/or Your dress’s design!
When applying make-up in this scenario – use the combination of colors which compliment your skin tone even if its a total contrast for the dress – Mix and match and love!
When it comes to the design of your dress, have a bodice with a color that suits your skin tone or add patches somewhere or wear a scarf with a complimenting color – the options are endless!
Stay beautiful
